Antique Deco Cufflinks Sagittarius Zodiac Sign Intaglio Reverse Painted Essex Crystal Glass December Birthday

This is a rare and collectible pair of 1920s Art Deco Sagittarius the Archer cufflinks made of reverse carved and hand painted intaglio glass set in a gilt metal setting.

Cufflinks such as these were inspired by the Victorian fashion for 'Essex crystal' jewellery (Essex crystal was made of carved reverse painted rock crystal, a technique developed in Belgium in the 1860s). After 1900, Edwardian and Deco jewellers began using reverse carved 'bubble glass' cabochons instead of quartz, to create expressive and vibrant pieces like these cufflinks, which are now highly collectible in their own right.

The links' faces are round and measure .5 inch or 1.4 cm in diameter. The fastenings are chain linked. The gilding is unusually bright and well preserved. They have stood the test of time wonderfully well!

RETURNS We have a no quibble return policy, so if you are not happy with your item, please get in touch within 14 days and ship the item back to us within 30 days of receipt. Return postage is normally paid by the buyer (cf. Etsy's return policies).
