Jewellery Detective: What Stories Does Your Jewel Tell?

Welcome to our collection! We adore jewels from all periods and places, and choose pieces for their authenticity, unusual character and unique stories. We hope our collection connects not just with knowledgeable collectors (although I hope they will enjoy visiting), but with anyone who is looking for good quality sustainable jewellery at a decent price - whatever their favourite style or period. You may be someone who is invested in minutely re-creating the authentic look of a particular era - or a bricoleuse who enjoys building your own eclectic style out of many unsual pieces. Whatever your taste, we hope you find something you will love.

As an LSE trained social anthropologist with a background in fine arts, I approach jewellery as more than ornament, carefully investigating each piece’s ‘social life’ - shaped by historical forces, and the people who conceived and produced it, wore it, customised it, and passed it on. Using my training in research and observation, I adore ‘reading’ jewels for clues about their past: tool marks, materials, construction techniques, and the subtle signs left by the people who interacted with them – a bit like an archeology of adornment.

All our jewels are in strong wearable condition, and over the years we have supplied a range of TV, film and theatre costume departments, including: Brendan Foley’s Sherlock & Daughter, The Witches (Warner Bros.), Coronation Street, and the Netflix series Marco Polo and Selena.

We love the fact that vintage, antique and second hand jewellery is not only gorgeously designed and fascinating, but also sustainable. Wearing such pieces highlights our shared human history, and does something concrete to save our planet.

Many thanks for visiting, and please get in touch if you have any questions!
